Replacement of National ID
This eservice allows Rwandan citizens to apply for ID replacement after they lose their National ID. A citizen applying for this service should have first reported to the Police station so that he or she obtains the certificate of loss(attestation de perte), which shall be taken to the Civil Registration Officer (Etat Civil) on the appointment day. After approval by the Civil Registration Officer, the application will be submitted to the National ID Agency for ID production.
The applicant may apply for a temporary ID within this application, as they wait for their new ID to be produced. This will require an additional 500 FRW. This document is only valid for 30 days.
Note:If you do not know/recall your lost ID number, kindly report to your respective sector for assistance.
Who can apply?
Rwandan citizen who lost his/her identity card or suspects that it has been stolen.
Step 1: Before applying on Irembo
Report the loss to the nearest police station in order to obtain a “Certificate of loss” (“Attestation de perte”).
Step 2: Apply on Irembo
Once you have obtained the certificate of loss, you can apply:
i. Online: If you are not registered with Irembo, click the ""Sign Up"" button above and register using your National ID and the Phone number registered to your ID, OR
ii. Apply via USSD: Dial *909# and follow instructions, OR
iii. Agents: You may also approach an Irembo agent at these locations"
Note: During the application, please fill in the date when you got the certificate of loss and the sector where you want to schedule your appointment.
Step 3: Payment
Once you complete application, you can directly pay online using a VISA or MasterCard card, OR select another option Mobile Money on MTN (*182#), Airtel (*182#) or Tigo (*310#) or Mobicash, or visit a BK branch or BK agent close to you, and use the billing number received via SMS/Email.
Step 4: SMS/Email notification
i. Upon submission, you will receive an SMS and/or email to confirm the application and contaning the billing number to be used for payment
ii. Upon payment, you will receive another SMS and/or email to confirm the payment. If you don't receive an SMS and/or email within 30 minutes, please call 9099 for support
iii. Once the Civil Registration Officer receives your application, he/she will schedule an appointment for you to come to the sector for approval. You will receive another SMS and/or email notification informing you the date and location of your appointment. If you do not receive the notification for the appointment within 3 working days, visit the CRO at the sector for assistance.
Step 5: Day of the appointment
Note: On the day of the appointment remember to carry your certificate of loss from Police to the sector.
i. Once the officer has met with you and approved the application, you will receive your temporary ID immediately at the sector if you chose this option, and your application for ID replacement will be submitted to NIDA for ID production
ii. After your application is submitted to NIDA for production of your ID, your ID will be available within 60 days
